Reader Discussion: What's Your Favorite Book, Movie, or Album Inspired By Video Games?

Okay, so Kanye West may or may not be naming his next album after the TurboGrafx-16, a console responsible for producing some of the most terrifying games in existence:

So that's a thing that's gonna happen. Or not, maybe, who knows? But it did get me thinking about some of my favorite non-gaming things that have been inspired by video games. Originally I was going to tell you all about my love for The Super Mario Bros movie (yes, the one from 1993 that has Academy Award Nominated actor Dennis Hopper as King Koopa) but I'll save that one for another day, I think. 

Instead, I'm gonna talk about Scott Pilgrim Vs. The World. That's the movie, not the comic series. The series is fine but the movie, I remember going to see that at midnight release with my brother after spending three hours on the road driving home from college.  

We were both tired and were really only at the showing because we had heard from some pals who had seen pre-release showings that it was AMAZING. They weren't wrong. That was the first, and one of the few, movies I've seen that properly translated the kinetic visual language of video games into film in a way that didn't feel overbearing or like an awkward gamey homage (like the first-person sequence in the DOOM movie). Man, now I really wanna watch it again.
