Reader Discussion: What Video Game Spin-offs Do You Want To See?

by Javy Gwaltney on Jan 10, 2016 at 10:20 AM

Assassin's Creed Chronicles: India arrives next week and is the latest game that's part of a trend where developers and publishers are taking chances with interesting and experimental spin-offs from their franchises. Chronicles: China embraced Mark Of The Ninja's gameplay to become an enjoyable stealthy sidescroller. Both Hitman Go and Lara Croft Go emulate board game mechanics and have little to do with the main entries for each respective series. And, of course, this year also gave us Tales from the Borderlands, Telltale's hilarious (and moving) take on Gearbox Software's first-person shooter.

To be honest, I'm not usually a fan of spin-offs because the vast majority of the time the most you can hope for is an enjoyable but very flawed game.  However, Square Enix and Telltale's efforts have made me excited for future spin-offs of my favorite games. I'd love to see a non-fighting game set in Mortal Kombat's goofy and gory universe (look, let's just take a Godfather III policy here and agree that Mythologies: Sub Zero didn't happen, okay?). I'd also be keen to spend some more time in the Arkham version of Gotham but with an entire game where you play as someone, or several people, who aren't Batman.

What about you, reader? Got any spin-offs you've been dreaming about for years? Maybe one where you play as plucky youngster trying to make their mark in history by becoming Gwent champion of Vizima? Or maybe a Fire Emblem hack & slash?
