The Original Title for The Force Awakens Revealed
Pablo Hidalgo, the creative executive at the Lucasfilm Story Group, the division of LucasFilm tasked with creating a new, canonical continuity for the Star Wars universe, has revealed the original title for The Force Awakens.
Hidalgo tweeted that "for the longest time" the working name of the film was the same as an Expanded Universe novel. When asked for more details, he tweeted out the working title:
The Expanded Universe novel Pablo referred to is Shadows of the Empire, which shared its name with a Nintendo 64 game as well.
