PS4 Tops Console Hardware And Software Sales In February

by Jeff Marchiafava on Mar 12, 2015 at 12:32 PM

Sony has sent out a press release ahead of the February NPD report claiming another victory over Xbox One for its current-gen console.

We're expecting the February NPD numbers to come in any time now, but Sony isn't waiting to share its good news. According to the company, The PlayStation 4 was the number-one console in both hardware and software sales for the month of February, and remains the leader in total hardware sales. This was true in January as well, when the PS4 hit 18.5 million units sold. That number has risen to 20.2 million, which Sony announced last week. Sony's press release also states that the PS4 is the fastest-selling console in PlayStation hardware history.

The Nintendo 3DS was the best-selling game hardware overall.

Stay tuned for a breakdown of the NPD's February report.

Our Take
I couldn't care less about the "console war" between Microsoft and Sony, but I will take the latest PS4 sales numbers as a positive sign that interest in console gaming is alive and well - something we can all be thankful for.
