The latest Pokémon Sold 1.5 Million U.S. Copies In 10 Days
In light of the recent NPD numbers, Nintendo has issued a release highlighting its successes in November – the most impressive of which is selling a mind-boggling number of Pokémon games.
We already knew that the game sold 3 million copies worldwide in its first week – but how much of that was in North America?
From launch day on November 21 to November 30, Pokémon sold 1.5 million units in the U.S. – a combined figure from both Alpha Sapphire versions and Omega Ruby. Those two games charted at the the #5 and #7 slots for the month, respectively. Compare that to another big release like Dragon Age: Inquisition, which released on November 18 on five different platforms (which are combined for NPD's purposes) and didn't even crack the top 10.
Smash Bros. for Wii U has sold over 700,000 copies since launch.
Nintendo also notes that the week of November 23 was the best single week of sales for the Wii U since the console launched in 2012. The numbers for the system were also up 10 percent for the month compared to last year.
Our Take
Nintendo has a vault of classic characters and great franchises. It's great that these are doing well – Nintendo fans love Nintendo's products, and will buy them time and time again. I don't need to ring the ol' "But where is the third-party support?" bell again, because that battle is essentially lost, but I'm glad the company is still able to find support for its iconic franchises.
