Over 3 Million Copies Of Pokémon Omega Ruby And Alpha Sapphire Sold In Opening Week

by Mike Futter on Nov 26, 2014 at 01:23 AM

The Pokémon Company has announced that sales of its latest duo of titles for the Nintendo 3DS are off to a strong start. Over 3 million copies of Omega Ruby and Alpha Sapphire have been sold so far.

The titles were released in Japan, North America, and Australia on November 21. European release is slated for later this week.

According to a report in Famitsu, 3.04 million copies of the titles were sold in the opening week. Three-day sales in Japan totaled 1,534,593 inclusive of the double-pack of games, but not counting digital sales. Because of the mismatch in periods, it’s not possible to draw a specific line between Japan domestic sales and the other territories.

By comparison, Pokémon X and Y sold 4 million copies worldwide in its first two days. Given that the new games aren't out in Europe until this Friday, Omega Ruby and Alpha Sapphire are on track to match performance of the last title. Our Take
The early sales for Omega Ruby and Alpha Sapphire are even more impressive when you consider that this is essentially a remake. Nintendo’s software sales are tracking well, which should give a push to hardware. Just how much though won’t be known until the new year, when financial reporting occurs.
