The Finish Line Is In Sight For Project Cars

by Jeff Marchiafava on Sep 05, 2014 at 05:51 AM

Slightly Mad Studios has announced the release date for its community-assisted racing sim.

Racing fans can pick up the game on November 18 for PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC. The developer says that the Wii U version is still on track and will release sometime in 2015.

Project Cars was originally slated for a 2013 release on PC, and is notable for its approach to development. Slightly Mad funded the game with a Kickstarter-style fundraising period, but has also let investors decide the focus of development instead of just taking their money. Slightly Mad has also given the community additional access such as meetings with the developers and periodic builds of the game.

Our Take
It's nice to see a studio go above and beyond asking for handouts on Kickstarter and instead give its investors some say in what the final product will be. Hopefully Project Cars satisfies the players who put money into it, and becomes the blueprint for a new and more hands-on approach to crowdfunding.
