The lights are on
Slightly Mad Studios, the developer behind Need for Speed: Shift, has updated its website to confirm that its newest racing project will also be coming to Wii U.
The Project Cars website now lists Wii U as a development platform, in addition to the previously announced Windows, Xbox 360, and PlayStation 3 versions. Cars, which actually stands for "community assisted racing sim," is a new approach to game design where the direction of the development is based on direct feedback from gamers, who can invest in the project and access regular builds of the game. The game will release first on PC, sometime in 2013.
We're not sure how the game will utilize the Wii U's unique hardware, but that complicated steering wheel in the image above seems like a natural fit for the over-sized touchscreen on the new system's controller.

I knew about this already thanks to WiiUBlog :)
I wanna get a Wii U so I'm gonna see how this all works out. Wii U needs tons of amazing games to attract potential customers so good job Nintendo of getting a car racing game.
I am very curious to see how this will translate to the WiiU and how the controls might change the mechanics of typical racing games.
I'm looking forward to this game, hopefully they release it on Steam as well.
Graphically this game looks sick. I was a fan of Kart 2 Kart on the dreamcast (had the racing wheel and really got into it). I recently got the wheel for the Xbox 360 and I think this game would make a great addition to my collection.

interesting
Not sure if it should be noted or not, but the website also lists the game as being for 360, PS3, and PC- so feel free to be skeptical still about the WiiU's graphics, seeing as this may be a screen from a higher end PC.
The WiiU mote looks like the stearing wheel.. or the steering wheel looks like the WiiU mote?
when does the wii u launch?
Hmm, well that is quite far down the line, could be interesting, something worth keeping an eye on...
Nice good to see a racing sim is coming to the wii u and hopefully a good one not like shift. Shift was good but it was way more arcade to me then sim. I will be picking a Wii U up(and probably regretting it)just because I like to be current with my console's and have the choice of any game that releases.
Not a fan of wii u but this looks sweet.
I wish someone would develop a racing sim that started with Saturday night racing that included stock cars, sprint cars, midgets etc. and let the driver develop on up from there..Yes it would be a monster to develop. Yes, it would take incredible hours upon hours to create. However, I guarantee that, if done correctly, it would be the highest selling racer ever. Imagine running a super late model around a 3/8's of a mile track all the way up to Nascar. Having both dirt and pavement races. If I am the only one who thinks that this extensive of a racing game could not make it, please knock me off of my soap box now before it gets too high to fall from.
