Firaxis Is Having A Fan Convention In September

by Mike Futter on Aug 21, 2014 at 12:04 PM

If you worship at the altar of “one more turn,” or have ever sent an XCOM soldier to die a terrible death, you may want to circle September 27th on your calendar. Whether you prefer a diplomatic victory or want to see your enemies driven before you, there will be something for you at the first ever Firaxicon.

The event will be held in Cockeysville, Maryland (a real place I have actually visited), and will include an evening with strategy mastermind Sid Meier, a tour of the Firaxis offices, panels, and events.

There will also be an XCOM: Enemy Unknown tournament, boardgames, and a chance to play Civilization: Beyond Earth before it’s released. Tickets are $40 and they must be purchased in advance.

You can find out more about the event on the ticketing website. For more on Civilization: Beyond Earth, check out our preview from Gamescom.

Our Take
As a fan of Civilization and XCOM, this sounds like a great time. Both franchises have very healthy fan communities that I’ve found to be quite pleasant when I’ve interacted with them. I’m looking forward to seeing what kind of panels Firaxis puts together.
