New Zealand Treated To Dragon Quest IV On iTunes

by Wayne Stainrook on Aug 06, 2014 at 09:14 AM

Though it was known as Dragon Warrior IV upon its original North American release over 20 years ago, it appears Square Enix saw fit to do more than change just one word in the classic RPG series for its iPhone and iPad appearance. Released on the New Zealand iTunes store earlier today, you can now get your hands on Dargon Quest IV, which is just Dragon Quest IV on iOS but much more fun to say aloud.

Though the error is sure to be corrected, we can all take a moment to enjoy the silliness of this little oversight before the North American release. Square Enix released Dragon Quest VIII on iOS and Android recently, and it's worth checking out if you're looking for some old-school swords and sorcery gameplay to tide you over.

Dragon Quest IV originally appeared on NES in 1992 here in the states as Dragon Warrior IV, receiving a DS remake in 2008 as Dragon Quest IV: Chapters of the Chosen. For more, read about Dargon Ball Xenoverse and check out our hands-on preview of Dargon Age: Inquisition.

Our Take
We’re sure this was just an honest mistake, and definitely not the worst thing Square Enix has done to RPG fans on iTunes. Remember Final Fantasy: All The Bravest? After that, we think we’ve earned this one.
