Rayman Comes To Super Smash Bros. In Trophy Form

by Mike Futter on Jul 14, 2014 at 03:03 AM

Later today, Nintendo will be revealing a new fighter for the upcoming pair of Super Smash Bros. titles. Before that happens at 10 a.m. Eastern though, director Masahiro Sakurai is teasing us with a new collectible trophy.

Ubisoft’s limbless hero, Rayman, is getting his due in Nintendo’s brawler. Along with the image, Sakurai says that Ubisoft sent over 3D reference art specifically made for Smash Bros.

Is the mastermind behind Nintedo’s adored brawler playing a game of misdirection, or will Ubisoft’s classic mascot be joining the brawl? We’ll know it about an hour.

For more on Super Smash Bros., check out our coverage from E3 as the Wii Fit Trainer and Greninja. The 3DS version is slated to release on October 3. The Wii U version is yet undated, though Nintendo is targeting the “Holiday 2014” window.

Our Take
Rayman would be a great fit for the Smash Bros. cast, and his inclusion opens the door for a Globox or Rabbids assist trophy, too. I’d be glad to see him join the fight (especially if we get an UbiArt style stage along with him).
