Naughty Dog Loses Lead Character Artist Michael Knowland

by Mike Futter on Apr 28, 2014 at 03:52 AM

Another Naughty Dog staff member has departed the Uncharted studio. Michael Knowland, who served as lead character artist on the award-winning The Last of Us, has departed.

The news comes from his LinkedIn profile, which indicates that Knowland left in April 2014. This comes after recent departures of several studio employees, including Uncharted creative director and writer Amy Hennig, lead artist Nate Wells, and Uncharted 4 director Justin Richmond.

We've reached out to Sony to inquire about Knowland's departure. We'll update should we receive a response.

Our Take
It's not uncommon for staff to depart a studio and seek new challenges, but the volume of individuals is forcing us to take notice. Certainly the high profile departure of Amy Hennig was a shock, but each time we hear of another significant contributor leaving, it's another cut at the core of a studio that could do little wrong before this.
