Bethesda Offers Statement Regarding Item Duping Bug In The Elder Scrolls Online

by Kyle Hilliard on Apr 19, 2014 at 06:26 AM

Game Informer has received a statement from Bethesda regarding the recent bug allowing players to clone items.

A representative from Bethesda offered the following statement:

Yesterday, we identified an item duping bug in ESO that some players chose to exploit. We acted quickly, and have since fixed the issue. We have a zero tolerance policy when it comes to abusing exploitable bugs, and those who were found doing so will have their game account permanently banned.

Yesterday, The Elder Scrolls Online developer ZeniMax Online Studios and publisher Bethesda disabled the game's Guild Bank in response to a bug that let players clone and sell items.

Our Take
It's unclear if the bug will have any lasting effects on the economy of The Elder Scrolls Online, but it appears as though Bethesda was able to take action fast enough to prevent anything too terrible from happening. Justice is swift in the world of Tamriel.
