Martin Kenwright, founder of both Evolutions Studios (MotorStorm) and Digital Image Design (F29 Retaliator), has started a new studio named Starship.

Starship, which also features talent from Evolution and Studio Liverpool (Wipeout), isn't saying exactly what it is working on, but it appears to be broad and ambitious. The company's Vimeo page reads: "Starship is developing major cross-platform next-gen IP incorporating intelligent communications platforms and is interested to speak with visionary OEMs, rights holders, and brands about opportunities in the gaming, entertainment, lifestyle, and e-health sectors."

According to Eurogamer, some of Starship's projects – gaming and non-gaming – will be shown at this year's E3 in June.

As for Evolution, yesterday it was revealed that Col Rodgers, game director of DriveClub, left the developer, the company has experienced layoffs, and DriveClub – which Kenwright helped start – is nowhere to be seen.

Here is a vid from Starship discussing its outlook and history.

Our Take:
At a time when many new studios are inaugurating smaller-scale projects, Starship appears to be thinking big. It will be interesting to see how its non-gaming applications inform, if at all, its traditional game projects.
