The lights are on
DriveClub's development has been troubled lately, with delays, layoffs at developer Evolution Studios, and reworked design. Apparently, the list of the game's difficulties doesn't stop there.
According to a report from VideoGamer, the game director of DriveClub, Col Rodgers, has left the studio. The report states that Rodgers has formed an indie studio called Big Red Switch Games. Rodgers says his departure is not related to the recently announced layoffs at Evolution Studios.
We've reached out to Sony for an official word on the situation.

Our TakeThis can't be how Sony wanted or expected things to play out for DriveClub. At last year's E3, the company chose to highlight DriveClub at its E3 Press Conference – even over the venerable Gran Turismo series' latest installment. The current state of affairs is a far cry for a game that was once presented as the future of racing games on the PS4.

While delays are great if the result in a better game, all I can see comming from Drive club now is a game that will likely quickly fade into obscurity within a month of release. Driving games don't do super fantastic as it is unless they have something that makes them stand out,and the ones that can do well enough to hold on are the names that have been around for a while. Drive club, being new really needed to get its name out there and get the word of mouth going. The best time for that was at the consol launch when there wern't many games out to overshadow it but when ever it does release that will not be the case.
Is Col Rogers the one who was talking about the cars in an erotic fashion at the E3 event?
Dang, that's awful.
Lol this game is never coming out
greatness awaits?????
I'm actually excited for The Crew! Drive Club looks nice but after all the issues going on I lost the bit of interestest that I had for it...
Darn that sucks.
So can we just assume this game is done for?
Sounds like a fiasco. Hard to believe any established studio along with Sony could make such a blunder as to showcase a project only to go completely backwards after that. Maybe this director wasn't capable from the get go and the communication just wasn't up to par. Certainly doesn't suggest any confidence to the gaming consumer about products from a studio like that.
Well I'll certainly have to be more cautious when and if this game does release. It really is too bad that all of this has happened. You know the developers can't be happy about it, Sony can't be too pleased that it's turned into this, and the consumer is losing out on a game.
Of course, these things do happen so we'll just have to wait and see. Maybe the guy left when he realized that things just weren't going the way he wanted them to go. Maybe somebody new could give this game that last bit of umph it needs.
They might as well just hold this dust grabber off and package it around VR.
I'm still bitter that Evolution Studios survived, when Studio Liverpool got the axe. As much as I liked Motorstorm, WipEout was an infinitely better series.
Racing games are my ultimate favorite genre. I have a bad feeling for DriveClub now. I guess my PS4 will be sitting there gathering dust until The Crew comes out. D:>
I was looking forward to the is game since last years E3, but after seeing The crew and this games push backs, I'm stoked for the Crew.
