Report: South Park Gets Censored In Europe, Middle East, And Africa

by Mike Futter on Feb 25, 2014 at 03:44 AM

Next week marks the release of the long anticipated South Park: The Stick of Truth. Obsidian’s RPG has faced a change in publishers and extensive delays, but Trey Parker and Matt Stone’s vision is about to be realized. Mostly.

In a number of territories, explicit scenes will be hidden with descriptive text overlaid. The scenes include two different abortion minigames and five separate depictions of anal probing. "This was a market decision," Ubisoft told Eurogamer.

The Australian edition retains the minigames, but the anal probe scenes have been removed. The UK edition is reportedly unedited.

Update: Ubisoft says that the PC versions in the affected territories will not be censored.

Our Take
I’m not at all surprised that South Park: The Stick of Truth includes material that is so wildly objectionable. I am even less surprised that edits were necessary in some parts of the world. As a fan of the show, I’m looking forward to seeing how this turned out, but I won’t hide my apprehension about the minigames.
