Koch Media Picks Up Galaxy On Fire Developer Fishlabs
Koch Media is preparing to step more into the mobile space. The publisher has acquired Galaxy on Fire developer Fishlabs and its Abyss engine.
The acquisition preserves all of the studio's 52 employees. The developer will continue to operate in Hamburg with no interruption.
Koch Media/Deep Silver have been in a period of acquisition this year, starting with the successful bids for Volition, Saints Row IV, and Metro: Last Light following THQ's collapse. The publisher is currently working on an announced Dead Island-themed MOBA. It has not yet revealed its plans for next-generation hardware.
Our Take
Koch Media/Deep Silver is on the rise, and stepping into mobile with the assistance of Fishlabs' established engine is a smart move. It's unclear if this means new properties or spin-offs of established franchises. Koch Media certainly has IP that could make the jump to mobile successful.
