The lights are on
Deep Silver is taking its tropical paradise zombie series into a new genre. Dead Island: Epidemic will premiere at Gamescom in Cologne, Germany at the end of this month.
Deep Silver is calling the title a ZOMBA (Zombie Online Multiplayer Battle Arena). It will follow the MOBA genre's traditional free-to-play model, but offers up three-way combat instead of two teams.
We'll be seeing the title when we arrive in Europe, so keep a dangling eye out for our preview.
Our TakeThe MOBA genre is one I've not successfully penetrated yet (except for Awesomenauts). I tried Guardians of Middle-earth, but extended match wait times turned me off. I've heard that new players have a rough go in the League of Legends and Dota communities, so even dipping my toe in the water isn't appealing.
All of that trepidation aside, I do like the Dead Island series. I'm also of the mind that zombies make many things better. I'm looking forward to giving this a try to find out of this is the MOBA… er… ZOMBA for me.

This could work, possibly, if only it could pull from the successes of the original game and bypass most of what made Riptide less than great.
Breaking into the MOBA genre along LoL and DotA before most people even know what MOBA is? LOL good luck.
Btw Guardians of Middle Earth sucked Mike (I know you prob cant say it), the wait times were just an icing on the cake.
While I enjoyed some of the Dead Island games, seeing Deep Silver take on the MOBA space with their Dead Island game is just.... absurdly weird. I highly doubt that this will ever work.
more zombie games are never a bad thing
Bring back that zombie bust for this.
Well,I was disappointed with Riptide....Maybe this will be good, but probably not....But it is gonna probably have a public Beta so we can all judge then.....
I think I'll just pass, I like Zombie's and all but It's just gotten way to old for me
Jeez, now with the success of LoL and Dota 2 every franchise has to have a MOBA game now ...
Three-way combat seems to be the new thing.
