Capcom Shelves Darkstalkers After Poor Resurrection Sales
Fighting games have seen an enormous wellspring of attention from the community at large over the past five years. The resurgence was spurred in large part by Street Fighter IV, which is about to get yet another iteration.
Unfortunately for fans, Darkstalkers Resurrection didn't garner quite as much enthusiasm as Capcom had hoped. The title failed to reach sales expectations, and the publisher has unfortunately decided to put the franchise back in cold storage.

Our Take
I've seen a number of people wondering how Capcom can make this decision based on an old game simply re-released in HD. If you take a look at Capcom's recent track record, it includes a number of HD updates. Resident Evil has had two, Devil May Cry has a collection, and entries in the Street Fighter and Marvel vs. Capcom series have been up-rezzed.
Capcom has enough historical data to know how these HD releases should perform. If Darkstalkers didn't bring in the revenue was anticipated, there is no way that gamers can expect the publisher to put money behind a brand new title in the series.
Especially given Capcom's recent financial problems, a fairly weak slate of upcoming retail titles, and their expectation that costs are going to rise significantly in the next generation, caution is called for. Regardless, this is a disappointing turn of events for fans.
