Double Fine’s Massive Chalice Kickstarter Exceeds Goal

by Tim Turi on Jun 27, 2013 at 11:00 AM

Last month Double Fine announced another Kickstarter, something completely separate from the adventure game, Broken Age. Massive Chalice, a tactical strategy PC game in the vein of Final Fantasy Tactics, and it looks like gamers want it because the campaign has overflowed with support.

The initial goal of Massive Chalice was $725,000. The Kickstarter campaign topped out at $1,229,015 with 31,774 backers when the countdown ended today at 4:00 pm central. Double Fine posted no stretch goals for Massive Chalice, but says there will be “ongoing conversations with the community as new features are considered…”

The next step is for project lead Brad Muir, creator of Iron Brigade (formerly titled Trenched), to guide his team at Double Fine into development.

"If I can get sappy for a moment I’d like to thank each and every one of you for believing in Double Fine," says Muir. "Tim [Schafer] has created a wonderful, crazy place where anyone can get a chance to bring their ideas for games to life. I never dreamed that I would be here, pitching a new game directly to gamers. The faith and trust that you guys have shown in us is completely overwhelming. You’re amazing. Thanks for giving us the opportunity to make another video game."

While we wait for the imaginative studio to work on the game, why not check out the extensive developer round table below?
