Weekend Warrior 04/19/13

by Louis Garcia on Apr 19, 2013 at 02:00 PM

Some Game Informer editors will visit the dangerous world of Defiance with anyone brave enough to join them. New releases and a classic PlayStation role-playing game are also on the to-do lists this weekend.

Mike Futter: Injustice has captured my attention with its solid story mode, interactive backdrops, and brutal (but still T-rated) combat. I’m certain I’ll be spending more time with it this weekend. Most importantly, Game Informer's executive editor and I will be hosting a community Hellbug-fest this weekend. On Saturday and Sunday, join us for Defiance on Xbox 360. Complete information is available here.

Ben Hanson: This weekend I'm looking forward to sitting back and relaxing with a couple of games. I just started playing Tomb Raider and am curious to see where it goes after hearing so much praise around the office, including several editors placing it above Bioshock Infinite. Other than that, I'm playing through Mark of Kri on PS2 for the first time. I've been meaning to get around to it for a while after playing the demo so long ago and I'm enjoying certain parts of it (the combat, the animation) but there are other aspects (checkpoints, camera) that have aged horribly. Have a good weekend!

Tim Turi: This weekend I hope to finish up Juan’s quest in Guacamelee, which I’ve really been enjoying. I also have to choose between finally seeing what Dragon’s Dogma is all about or starting God of War: Ascension. Not gonna lie, I think Dragon’s Dogma might win this one. Haven’t been able to play either of the new “GoW” games lately – Gears of War: Judgment has remained on my floor untouched. I’ll get to them.

Kyle Hilliard: After beating Far Cry 3 last night, I am relatively caught up on the current games I feel I need to play, and my backlog. My wife and I went on a Miyazaki Amazon spree picking up just about every movie that’s available on Blu-ray or DVD that we didn’t already own, so we will probably subject our child to a Miyazaki movie marathon against her will. Otherwise I will be staring out the window trying to will the snow to melt and contemplating if I am brave enough to tackle Guacamelee on hard.

Andrew Reiner: I'll hopefully be playing Defiance with many of you this weekend. Tonight goes to Far Cry 3: Blood Dragon.

Jeff Marchiafava: I finally managed to beat BioShock Infinite this week, so I’m looking forward to getting back to Lara Croft’s latest adventure. Tomb Raider might not have as much quantum mechanics shenanigans, but I’m still enjoying looting crypts and killing jerks with my pickaxe. I also want to put more time into BattleBlock Theater, because that game is fun.

Louis Garcia: I was slowly working on BioShock Infinite, but after hearing about how Game Informer editor Matt Kato has been enjoying FIFA Ultimate Team mode in FIFA 13 I gave it another go. I’m now addicted to buying virtual cards of soccer players, as well as virtual packs akin to Pokemon Trading Card Game packs, and can’t find my way back to Infinite for the foreseeable future. At this point I’m not spending real money on players or item cards – I can't justify paying real money for virtual cards that are obsolete when the next game releases – but the descent into my obsession with crafting the ultimate team has begun.

Kim Wallace: I have a friend coming in from Toronto this weekend, and we’re going to beat Suikoden II. I can’t wait to get all the Stars of Destiny and see how the game holds up. Also, I feel like I’m finally nearing the end of Tomb Raider (blame Bioshock Infinite for distracting me), I wish it featured more inner monologues with Lara about her struggles, but maybe that will change soon. It’s just so much is happening to her; I want to hear more insight than moans. I will give the game credit for grossing me out with the blood-soaked, dead body-filled water. I felt like gagging as Lara was in it.
