Rumor: Bayonetta 2 Shelved

Bad news has been coming out of the Sega camp recently, and that may have caused work on Bayonetta 2 to be shelved.

Website Spong has a source that says that development on the game has been halted. Bayonetta 2 was going to have a new character from the U.S. military, but it's unknown what exact phase the project was in before it was halted.

Perhaps there is still hope, however, as at the time of Sega's recent layoffs and unannounced game cancellations, the Bayonetta franchise (the original is shown above) was described by Sega as one of the company's "strong IPs."

Creator Hideki Kamiya has recently tweeted to look for possible coverage for the game in unspecified magazines, but he's already cried wolf on that front before.

Sega will not comment on the rumor.
