Whether you're a fan of the semi-obscure but well-regarded Japanese developer Falcom or someone who hasn't yet had a chance to discover them, this is good news: Xseed has announced that they will begin releasing PC games on Steam, beginning with two strong entries from Falcom's long-running Ys series.

The new publishing deal will kick off with Ys: Oath in Felghana, which will launch on Steam on March 19 for $14.99. Ys Origin will follow at a later time, and the announcement strongly suggests that more PC releases from Xseed will be coming in the future. Personally, I'm hoping they get around to releasing some of Falcom's excellent Legend of Heroes games.

I've been hoping to see Xseed or another similar publisher step up to the PC plate for quite some time now. Digital platforms like Steam seem like a much more viable space for smaller Japanese developers to release titles like these and find an audience.

If you want to know why I think you should check out Ys: Oath in Felghana when it hits PC next week, check out my review of the PSP version.
