New Baldur's Gate Project Teased

Earlier today, old-school computer RPG fanatics across the Internet swooned in unison as some kind of Baldur's Gate teaser site appeared out of the blue. We still don't have all of the answers about what this site points to, but some fairly strong theories are emerging.

According to GameBanshee, the new site has appeared thanks to the people over at Beamdog, a developer/game download service that counts former BioWare designer Trent Oster among its numbers. Oster confirmed to GameBanshee that the new site is not related to a recently rumored Steam edition of Baldur's Gate, but he didn't provide any other information, saying only, "We're hoping to announce something soon."

Beamdog previously worked on the PC-only HD remake of BioWare's 2000 shooter MDK2, so some sort of HD upgrade to the classic Baldur's Gate games seems like a possibility. Kotaku speculates that it could be an iPad version of Baldur's Gate, which would be pretty brilliant if you ask me.

Whatever ends up being true, hopefully we'll know one way or another soon.
