[Update]: THQ Comments On Recent Layoff Rumor

by Matthew Kato on Jan 30, 2012 at 06:00 AM

[Update]: THQ has responded to a recent rumor that it has laid off staff in its Australia office, as well as there being trouble in Japan.

A THQ representative told us that the layoffs in Australia are related to the staff moves that the company outlined last week. Furthermore, the Japan office will not be closing, as there will still be staff at the Japanese location, and the Australia office will still handle THQ's business relationships in the region.

[Original Story]: The talk on THQ recently has been all over the place. One second people are being let go and there will be no more kids games, the next the company's bragging that Saints Row: The Third shipped almost four million copies to date. Not surprisingly, there are new reports about the company, unfortunately this time they are not good.

Kotaku has a source who says that THQ's Australia office let go 14 people. Previously, the company shut down two studios in the country.

The source also says that THQ will soon be shutting down its Japan office. It's not known how many employees this would effect.

We've contacted THQ for more info on this report, and we'll let you know if we hear anything back.
