Sony Denies Kaz Hirai Promotion

by Jim Reilly on Jan 09, 2012 at 05:22 AM

Updated Story: Sony has issued a statement denying the report from last week: "Certain media reports were published on January 7th, 2012 regarding Sony Corporation's executive officers' appointments. Sony Corporation has made no announcement in this regard and nothing has been determined at this time."

Original Story: According to a report from Japanese newspaper Nikkei, Kaz Hirai  will take over as president of Sony this April.

Hirai will replace current president Howard Stringer, though Stringer will remain on board as chairman and chief executive officer. Hirai was promoted to deputy president of the company last March and was in charge of Sony's consumer products and services division, which included PlayStation.

When asked for confirmation, a Sony representative told Game Informer the company does not comment on rumor or speculation.
