Weekend Warrior 12/02/11

by Phil Kollar on Dec 02, 2011 at 01:55 PM

We're all still recovering from the long Thanksgiving weekend and preparing for the fresh blast of cold weather in Minnesota, which means plenty of lazy time bundled up inside this weekend to play games. Here's what we'll be tackling this weekend:

Tim Turi: I’ve had it about up to here with Hugo Strange, so this weekend he’s going down. After that there’s a certain green tunic-clad hero I’ll be teaming up with. I also plan to shoot dudes in the face in Battlefield 3 and Modern Warfare 3.

Jeff Marchiafava: I really want to just play more Skyrim this weekend, but since we’re almost to the end of the year, I’ve also decided to check out Infamous 2 and LittleBigPlanet 2 from the vault for consideration of my personal 2011 top ten list. However, I don’t think I could live with myself if I didn’t get mauled by at least one bear in Bethesda’s epic RPG this weekend, so I’m sure I’ll be playing at least some Skyrim too.

Andy McNamara: After months of logistical problems, this weekend I finally get to play through Gears of War 3 co-op with my friends (*** busy schedules). So it's Gears of War 3 by night, and Skyrim filling in all my other time. Finishing the Mage's College, finishing the main story line, and making my armor are first on the agenda.

Jeff Akervik: Skyward Sword. That is all.

Phil Kollar: After wasting several hours last night getting my Wii modded up and able to play a European copy of Xenoblade Chronicles, I woke up this morning and discovered that Nintendo has finally decided to bring Monolith Soft's JRPG to North America. D'oh. Luckily, the game is awesome so far, making it totally worth that trouble for the chance to play it a few months in advance. I'm planning to spend some serious time with it this weekend. I'm also going to continue enjoying Super Mario 3D Land on my new 3DS and being stunned at the absurdity of Saints Row: The Third. I'm also having a strange itch to jump back into Mass Effect 2 to finish my high-difficulty/DLC run, but I have a pretty full weekend already....

Ben Hanson: I would guess that most of my free time this weekend will be poured into Skyward Sword. I’m really enjoying it, but good God there is a lot of content on that disc. Today I also developed a strange urge to continue playing Age of Empires Online. I’m a multiplayer junkie when it comes to RTS games, but AOEO has the most interesting single-player campaign structure for an RTS since Starcraft 2. Other than that, I will try and slip in some more time with Rayman Origins and a new-fangled game called ping pong. The latest patch for ping pong added Tim Turi as a solid competitor. Enjoy your weekend!

Jim Reilly: I’m going to play the s**t out of Batman: Arkham City.

Matt Bertz: I'm taking a breather from Skyrim to give a few other games a shot to make my top 10 of 2011 list. As soon as I wrap up Assassin's Creed: Revelations, I need to check out Saints Row: The Third and The Witcher 2. On Sunday I'm going to the Vikings game so I can heckle Tim Tebow (and probably my terrible home football team) in person.

Kyle Hilliard: I'm trying to get through Zelda as quickly as I can, but I desperately want to experience everything the game has to offer, so that will pretty much encompass my entire weekend. My wife got all the achievements in Skyrim earlier this week, so I can finally steal that away, too. It's going to be a Zelda weekend, though. Skyrim can continue to wait.

Andrew Reiner: As a completionist, I doubt I'll finish The Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword this weekend, but I should be able to log another 20 hours into this massive quest. On top of this, I plan on watching more of Sons of Anarchy's second season.
