Sony hasn't made any official PlayStation 4 announcements, but PlayStation Europe deputy president Jim Ryan has commented on the future of the PlayStation 3 follow-up.

In an interview with Eurogamer TV, Ryan said, "I think we would consider it undesirable to be significantly later than the competition [with the next PlayStation]."

The Wii U has been officially announced, and rumors of a new Microsoft console have been somewhat prevalent, but Sony hasn't offered much information in regard its future console endeavours. Ryan goes on to say that there is still a lot of life left in the PlayStation 3, commenting on the new lower price point, and how the PlayStation 2 really hit its stride when it dropped to a similar price.

Microsoft got a year head start with the Xbox 360 compared to the PlayStation 3, and it has served them well this generation, despite the red ring of death and other console errors. Getting out early is important in the world of video games, and Sony seems to recognize that.
