Level-5 And Studio Ghibli RPG Coming To North America

by Joe Juba on Sep 16, 2011 at 07:00 AM

Ni no Kuni, the role-playing collaboration between game developer Level-5 and renowned animation house Studio Ghibli, will be coming to PlayStation 3 in North America in early 2012.

The announcement came during a Sony press event at TGS, where Level-5 CEO Akihiro Hino revealed that a localized version of the title is in production. While the DS version of the game is already out in Japan, the PS3 release is slated to hit Asia on November 17. For the Stateside release of the game to follow so quickly, the company must have been working on it for quite some time.

Back in July, Hino released a video explaining the goal of the company's North American branch. Among them was localizing and publishing Japanese games…and odds are good that Ni no Kuni was the first project on the list. However, don't be surprised if the game gets a name change before it comes to our shores.

This is great news for RPG fans…especially those who also like Studio Ghibli's films like Princess Mononoke and Spirited Away. To see the game in action, check out the latest Japanese trailer.
