GameStop: PS3 & 3DS Sales Rise On Price Drops

by Matthew Kato on Aug 22, 2011 at 04:57 AM

Nintendo's 3DS price cut was labelled a desperate measure and PS3's was overdue, but no matter what you call it, it seems to be working.

GameStop president Tony Bartel recently told investors that sales of both systems have increased due to the price cuts. "We have seen a significant acceleration in the sale of PlayStation 3 and the 3DS. Although these were not unexpected price decreases or price reductions that we had projected," he continued, "obviously, the 3DS was somewhat larger than what we had anticipated. But we do see that will spark demand in the third and the fourth quarter."

It's no surprise that sales would rise after these price cuts, but it remains to be seen – particularly for the 3DS – how far it will carry.
