We have plenty of people around the GI office who are extremely excited for Eat Sleep Play's upcoming Twisted Metal reboot on PS3. But according to recent comments from designer David Jaffe, some folks at publisher Sony may not completely understand the car combat franchise's appeal.

Speaking to Eurogamer, Jaffe said that Sony hasn't talked to him or his team about creating a Twisted Metal spin-off for the new PlayStation Vita handheld. He went on to explain his beliefs that some higher-ups at Sony may not be totally fond of the long-running series:

"When you say 'their big franchises' – I don't know – there are probably people within Sony who look at Twisted Metal and say 'that's a big franchise'. I just met a great sales guy from Australia who came up to me and said how he couldn't wait to promote the game down there. There are guys who get it, but there are just as many other people who go 'I don't really get it – is this something we really want to be promoting at the same level as say, Uncharted 3?'"

To Jaffe's credit, he also acknowledged that they're still unsure of how will the new Twisted Metal will do. Jaffe said he's uncertain if the fan support is enough to make the game successful to the level that would be needed for the franchise to continue right now.

Though Twisted Metal was on display at E3 last week, it was strangely absent from Sony's press conference. On a personal level, I'd love another great portable Twisted Metal, so here's hoping that Vita version can happen eventually.
