PlayStation Network Service Being Restored In Asia Tomorrow

by Phil Kollar on May 27, 2011 at 07:16 AM

North American gamers have been enjoying renewed (if somewhat limited) PlayStation Network access for a while now, but in the console's home country of Japan, access remains cut off. Sony announced that this would finally be fixed tomorrow.

PSN service restoration for Japan and Asia will begin on May 28. As in North America, the first phase of this process will include logging in and password changing for PSN and Qriocity, friend list access, PlayStation Home, and, of course, the ability to play online. Japanese PSN users will also be offered identity protection services.

Also part of this announcement is the "Welcome Back" package for these regions. Japanese PSN users will be able to choose two PS3 games and two PSP games from the following list:

PS3

  • The Last Guy
  • Loco Roco!! BuuBuu Cocoreccho!
  • Echochrome
  • Wipeout HD
  • Hustle Kings

PSP

  • Yuusha no Kuse ni Namaikida or2
  • Minna no Sukkiri
  • Patapon 2
  • LittleBigPlanet Portable
  • LocoRoco Midnight Carnival

Meanwhile, users located in Hong Kong, Singapore, Thailand, Malaysia, and Indonesia will be able to choose two each from this just slightly different list:

PS3

  • The Last Guy
  • Come on, LocoRoco!! BuuBuu Cocoreccho
  • Trashbox
  • Hustle Kings
  • Wipeout HD

PSP

  • Everybody's Stress Buster
  • LittleBigPlanet Portable
  • LocoRoco –Midnight Carnival-
  • Modnation Racer PSP

While this is an important overall step for Sony on the path to fully recovering PlayStation Network operations around the globe, the PlayStation Store remains down in all regions. Hopefully that will be fixed very soon as well.
