As many of you already know, production company iam8bit crafted an art installation/social experiment hybrid during the 25th annual Game Developers Conference, designed to celebrate the perseverance of the pixel in an polygon age.

Each attendee was given a pixel and asked to help flesh out the piece of pop art, designed by designer Jude Buffum. By the time the conference came to a close, 5,760 pixels were placed, and the final work of art revealed itself.

While we snapped a handful of photos of the effort throughout the week, this official time lapse video is significantly more impressive. Check out 40 hours of work compressed into four minutes below. If you watch carefully enough, you'll see someone sneak in a secret Mario.
