Guillermo Del Toro's Insane May Not Be A Trilogy After All

by Phil Kollar on Mar 05, 2011 at 05:45 AM

When THQ announced Insane, a new horror game being created by Volition and visionary movie director Guillermo del Toro, at the Spike Video Game Awards, the new IP was already being talked about as a trilogy. However, at GDC THQ has clarified that it will only be a trilogy if the first game works out.

Joystiq reports that THQ vice president Danny Bilson made the matter quite clear:

"We have aspirations to make a trilogy. If the first game doesn't work, there won't be a trilogy. It's not complicated."

Bilson compared the game's uncertain future to Hollywood launching a new franchise, specifically calling out The Matrix and Avatar as films, which got sequels greenlit because they did so well. Bilson said that THQ is "not really that arrogant...to plan a trilogy, because we're very realistic."

Personally, I would be psyched to see a new, well-done, triple-A horror franchise, and I'd be frustrated to have the almost certainly obscure story cut off after one installment, so here's hoping that del Toro and the fine folks at Volition can pull this off.
