UPDATE: After an accidental unveiling, EA is officially announcing a new Command & Conquer title, as well the studio behind the project. You can check out all of the (old) new details at the official Command & Conquer site.

ORIGINAL STORY: Last year's Command & Conquer 4 was probably the weakest entry in the long-running strategy series, but it doesn't seem to have killed off the franchise for long. A site announcing a new C&C game and studio briefly went live yesterday, and we've got details.

Rock Paper Shotgun caught a glimpse of the new site before it disappeared, but they were able to pull some interesting tidbits from it. For example, the C&C franchise -- as well as any other future strategy titles from EA -- will now be handled by a new studio called Victory Games that is based in L.A., Texas, and Shanghai.

Victory Games will be headed by Jon Van Caneghem, an industry veteran who joined EA a few years ago. According to Von Caneghem, they're now at work on a "AAA Command & Conquer game" that will remain focused on the PC as its primary platform.

Von Caneghem also says that the team is "updating a lot of the core technology to create a stable base for future development, and leveraging that work on this first game." In other words, EA is apparently thinking long-term on jumpstarting their main strategy franchise.

Shortly after going live, the new website was pulled, so apparently EA wasn't quite ready to make this official. We've contacted the publisher for confirmation and will keep an eye out for official word.
