Square Enix revealed a bit more about the official Final Fantasy trading card game this week, dropping details on rules of play, pricing, and more.
Andriasang reports that the TCG will feature one-on-one play using characters and summons from Final Fantasy lore. Decks will boast three different types of cards. Forward cards are the building block of the deck and are used for offensive and defensive actions. Backup cards can’t engage in battle themselves, instead augmenting the player with crystal points needed to attack and providing other support abilities. Summon cards can only be used once, but are noted as having very powerful attacks.
All cards will fall into an elemental category – drawing from fire, ice, wind, earth, snow, and water. Special elemental cards will bring light and darkness into play, too.
So far the game consists of 160 standard cards and 162 premium cards, ranging from common, uncommon, rare, special rare, and premium availability. Promotional cards have also been promised, released with other Square Enix titles such as The 3rd Birthday and Birth by Sleep. Starter decks (50 cards) will set you back ¥1,500/$18, with booster packs ( Eight cards) going for ¥330/$4.
Andriasang notes that the Final Fantasy trading card game will be available at retail on February 25, but doesn’t indicate if the date is region-specific. We’ve contacted Square Enix for clarification.
