Have Skateboarding Games Lost Momentum?

by Meagan Marie on Dec 01, 2010 at 09:02 AM

According to EA's John Riccitiello, standalone skateboarding games may be a convention of the past.

Speaking to Kotaku this week, Riccitiello explained that while he expects action sports titles to remain entertaining and relevant, “at least for the level of excitement out there, skateboarding seems to have run its course as the representative example in that broader genre."

The admission is candid considering EA’s own successful Skate franchise. That being said, recent Tony Hawk titles and Shaun White Skateboarding have done little to foster fandom within the subgenre.

How does your thermometer read on skateboarding games? Has the genre's time passed? Or are motion and controller-free gaming poised to usher in a resurgence of titles?
