Review Round-Up: Call Of Duty, Need For Speed, Sonic, And More

by Phil Kollar on Nov 09, 2010 at 01:20 PM

Another busy winter month for game releases means another batch of fresh reviews from Game Informer. Check out the links below to read all of the reviews we've posted so far this week.

Call of Duty: Black Ops (360, PS3, PC) - "It’s tough to hate on something as skillfully executed as Black Ops. Call of Duty remains the smoothest, most approachable first-person shooter out there, and I had a blast playing it. On the other hand, it’s disappointing that Treyarch’s much-hyped huge-budget entry in the franchise feels like Modern Warfare 2.5. Activision hasn’t Tony Hawked Call of Duty yet, though, and I’m happy to get a refined update. This year, anyway." -Adam Biessener

The Fight: Lights Out (PS3) - "Accomplishing its goal, The Fight delivers a more robust fighting experience than is currently offered by other motion-controlled titles. My aching muscles are a testament to the workout I received, but the recognition problems and repetitive gameplay made it an ugly fight not worth bragging about." -Jeff Marchiafava

Need For Speed: Hot Pursuit (360, PS3, Wii, PC) - "To say that Criterion has successfully taken over the Need For Speed series and reinvigorated it with a modern take on the Hot Pursuit formula is an understatement. Fans of white-knuckle racing games, both online and off, will find immense satisfaction on the roads of Seacrest County." -Meagan Marie

Sonic Colors (DS) - "If you’re craving more after Sonic 4, looking for a great DS game, or just want to experience an awesome platformer, don’t let Sonic Colors pass you by." -Tim Turi

Sonic Colors (Wii) - "Sonic Team’s most recent Wii offering is evidence that it’s attempting to claw its way out of a deep grave crammed with disappointing titles. Some diehard Sonic fans with unlimited patience may find enjoyment here, but the rest of us should pick up one of Sonic’s fully 2D titles until they get it right." -Tim Turi
