What Would Get You Interested In Sports Games?
Madden NFL 11 came out today. This is a huge deal for a lot of people, but there's also a fairly sizable subset of hardcore gamers (such as myself) who play almost everything except sports titles. Speaking as someone who writes about games as a career, the sports genre almost makes me uncomfortable because of my lack of knowledge.
I'm sure at least a few of the readers out there find themselves in a similar situation to me. What would make you take interest in a sports game? Or for those reading who already love sports games, what elements do you appreciate about them? Do you see any way to bring in new players without diluting what you love about the genre?
Personally speaking, I always have been intrigued by arcade-y sports titles, but they've really taken a backseat to simulation-heavy games for the last few generations. I'm curious to see if NBA Jam pulls it off and signals a resurgence of more off-beat sports games. What about you? Leave your opinion in the comments.
