Are You Excited For Kinect?

by Phil Kollar on Jul 07, 2010 at 10:45 AM

We got to check out a lot of exciting new hardware from Sony, Microsoft, and Nintendo at this year's E3, but one of the most potentially revolutionary (and potentially disastrous) devices was Microsoft's Kinect, a new product that gets rid of controllers altogether. Microsoft doesn't seem to be targeting hardcore gamers with the first batch of games shown for Kinect, but we still want to know what you think of the technology and whether or not it excites you.

The general consensus seems to be that Microsoft's press conference, which largely focused on Kinect titles, was not very well-done. That said, when myself and other journalists actually got hands-on time with Kinect titles later on, we discovered that they may not be made for us, but they also weren't bad. Personally, I was very impressed with Harmonix's Dance Central and also saw the appeal of the adorable Kinectimals (pictured above).

I was slightly less blown away by Kinect Adventures and Kinect Sports, mini-game collections that weren't as responsive as I wanted and don't seem to offer anything new. Obviously we'll have to save our final judgment until we have Kinect hardware and games in the office, but it's already a cause for concern that Microsoft didn't yet have any non-casual games that used Kinect save for Q Entertainment's awesome-looking (but also controller-ready) psychedelic shooter Child of Eden and the tech demo from the Forza team.

We'll have a full report on how well Kinect has turned out in the coming months as its launch approaches, but for now we want to know what you're thinking. Are you excited for Kinect and the games that have been shown on the new hardware so far?
