DC Bringing Digital Comics To PSN

by Meagan Marie on Jun 23, 2010 at 07:30 AM

Catching up to friendly rival Marvel, DC announced today that it will be bringing its iconic comic properties to the PlayStation Network Digital Comic service.  As of this morning, over 80 DC titles can be downloaded and viewed on any of the PSP iterations at prices between $0.99 and $2.99 per issue. Announced runs include comics from Batman: Hush, Green Lantern: Rebirth, Fables: Legends in Exiles and Planetary: All Over the World. As an extra treat, if you’ve been looking forward to the 700th issue of Superman, a 10-page preview is currently available.

“Outside of my work as a comic book creator and co-publisher, I'm an avid gamer,” weighed in iconic DC artist Jim Lee, who often takes on the role of ambassador between the comic and gaming industries. “Making our comics available through Sony's PlayStation Network digital comics offers a perfect opportunity for us to reach a new, different kind of reader.”

DC Comics publishes almost 1,000 issues a year between its various labels and properties, so we expect updating the PlayStation network with fresh content won’t be tough. You can browse the entire digital comic library here.

How many of you currently take advantage of Marvel’s downloadable service on your personal computer, PSP, or iPad? I’m all for increased access to quality comic content, and the dynamic Autoflow viewing system is impressive. That being said, I'll be the first to admit that giving up the slight euphoria of bagging and boarding my printed collection would be tough. How about you?
