StarCraft II: Wings Of Liberty Gets A Packed Collector's Edition

Hello, super-expensive new product that I will buy regardless! Today Activision Blizzard revealed a very nice-looking Collector's Edition for StarCraft II: Wings of Liberty.

While the normal edition of the game will run at a standard $59.99 at retail (and digital distribution when it is available at the Blizzard Store shortly after launch), the special edition will only be available at retail and will carry an eye-popping $99.99 price tag. To Blizzard's credit, for that price, it's packing a lot of cool stuff into the box. Here's the run-down of what it includes in order of coolness (from least cool to most):

  • issue #0 of the StarCraft comic
  • some Battle.net customization goodies to set your account apart, including exclusive decals and portraits and a unique look for the Terran Thor unit
  • the 14-track StarCraft II: Wings of Liberty soundtrack CD
  • an exclusive World of Warcraft non-combat pet based off StarCraft II's Thor mech units
  • a 179-page Art of StarCraft II: Wings of Liberty book
  • a special DVD with over an hour of developer interviews, game cinematics with commentary, and more
  • a replica of main character Jim Raynor's dog tag that also functions as a 2GB USB flash drive that is pre-loaded with the original StarCraft and the Brood Wars expansion pack

I initially scoffed at the price, but between the World of Warcraft pet, the DVD, and the USB with the first game (even though I already own it), I'm pretty much sold. As if a StarCraft fanboy like myself ever stood a chance.

How about you, slightly less Raynor-obsessed, folks? Who's planning to pick up the crazy big collector's edition and who's perfectly happy sticking with the regular version?
