NCSoft Files Trademark For City Of Heroes 2

by Phil Kollar on Apr 06, 2010 at 10:43 AM

Way back in 2004, superhero MMO City of Heroes launched and became the first MMO that I really became hooked on. Though I eventually grew out of my obsession, the game has continued strong for over five years now and is readying for its latest retail expansion pack, City of Heroes: Going Rogue. If a recent trademark filing is to be believed, publisher NCSoft may also be preparing for a full-on sequel.

Superannuation uncovered two trademark registrations from NCSoft for City of Heroes 2. Could the sequel finally be in the works? Or is NCSoft just doing early preparation for an inevitable announcement? We asked NCSoft and received the following statement:

"City of Heroes is a flourishing franchise and continues to be the world’s most popular super-powered hero MMO. While we cannot comment on City of Heroes 2 at this time, NCsoft is proud of City of Heroes’ success and is looking forward to future product launches associated with the franchise, including the City of Heroes: Going Rogue expansion scheduled for release this July."

With an expansion for the first game coming so soon, it makes sense that NCSoft may want to wait on any announcements regarding a sequel. From one long-time fan who's interested in getting back into the franchise, though, I can safely say that I'm excited to hear more soon.
