Square Enix: Areas Cut From Final Fantasy XIII Will Not Be DLC

by Phil Kollar on Feb 16, 2010 at 12:00 PM

Yes, Snow, I'm afraid I am dead serious. Despite previously admitting that so much content was cut from Final Fantasy XIII that it could make a whole new game, Square Enix said the cut areas will not be returning in the form of DLC.

Producer Yoshihiro Kitase told Joystiq that anything cut from Final Fantasy XIII was "[not] essential to the game" and, as such, will not be "revived as downloadable content." So exactly what kind of content was cut? Kitase explained:

"There wasn't all this other stuff that we wanted to include but had to cut. It was more of a selective process you'd find in any development process, where there were a lot of ideas but then we chose the best of those to include in the final game. The things that were cut either didn't make sense in the storyline, would slow down the pace of the game or were otherwise unnecessary."

Sounds fair enough. There's no need to make gamers pay for stuff that the developer didn't think was good enough to make it into the game in the first place. Now that we know these areas won't be making a return, what are you hoping to see from Final Fantasy XIII DLC?
