Atlus To Offer Demon's Souls Strategy Guide Replacement

by Phil Kollar on Nov 04, 2009 at 08:46 AM

That worn-down tome you see above is Game Informer's copy of the Demon's Souls strategy guide that came with our Deluxe Edition of the PS3 exclusive RPG. You may think the spine (and parts of the cover that you cannot see) have been ground down to a pale white because I relied on the book heavily during my time with the difficult game...and you'd be correct. But apparently I can let my embarrassment fade a little, as Atlus has revealed that some of the strategy guides actually have a defect that causes the ink to disappear so quickly. Even better, the publisher will be offering replacements for defective covers.

"While it seems that not every copy of the guide is affected, and the specific cause of the issue remains unclear," Atlus manager of PR and sales Aram Jabbari said in a statement on their forums, "Atlus always strives for nothing less than the full satisfaction of our customers. Therefore, we will soon launch a program to replace defective strategy guides."

Specific details on when the program will start and what steps affected consumers will have to take to get a replacement are still pending. Jabbari did note that if you've got a messed up guide, you'll need to mail in the cover and first page of the guide as proof of purchase. Since you're not sending the full guide, you'll at least still have it to help you out until the replacement copy arrives.

This replacement program is a very cool move for a publisher as small as Atlus, but it's also not surprising given their focus on the quality of purchases for their hardcore fans. Of course, we just assumed the disappearing ink was yet another element of Demon's Souls' legendary difficulty.
