Okay, I know what you're thinking. "Nintendo is developing another Mario game? Really, Phil? That's news?" Hear me out, though. According to the actor who has voiced Nintendo's jump-crazy plumber for over 10 years, the publisher is working on a new Mario game in addition to New Super Mario Bros. and Super Mario Galaxy 2.

Posting on his Twitter account (via Joystiq), Mario voice actor Charles Martinet dropped several hints over the last week about a new Mario-related project.

On October 10: "Mama Mia!!!! I'm going to Seattle this week to record a new Mario game! Woo Hooo!!!!! I can hardly wait!!!!1"

And on October 12: "Big day tomorrow! Seattle for a new Mario game! Yippee!!!"

Finally, yesterday Martinet provided this tasty morsel of information: "Awesome new Mario Game! And it's not NSMB Wii, and it's not Galaxy 2, but it's going to be crazy fun!"

Obviously, all this Twitter-hype should be taken with a grain of salt. Nintendo has yet to confirm whatever project Martinet is referring to. More importantly, Mario has a tendency to appear in a lot of games that aren't the platforming-focused Mario titles us hardcore gamers are most likely to think about. For all we know Martinet may have been recording voice-over for a sequel to Super Mario Strikers or a new Dr. Mario. Of course, we'll keep out hopes up for yet another in a wonderful string of new platformers, but let's not jump to conclusions.
