The Best Stardew Valley Mods (So Far)

by Javy Gwaltney on Mar 27, 2016 at 10:56 AM

Stardew Valley has barely been out for a month and its passionate community is already creating useful, creative, and utterly bizarre mods for the game. Here are some of our favorites. Be sure to read the installation notes for each of these mods before you install them because the process for some of them is more than a teensy bit complicated.

CJB Cheats Menu
Not patient? Wanna succeed in Stardew Valley and get on the fast track to building your open-range empire. Why not cheat? CJB's cheat menu is a simple mod that lives up to its name, essentially functioning as a trainer for the game and giving you a menu of cheats and shortcuts, like letting you kill enemies in one hit or controlling the weather. You can watch the whole thing in action as well as step-by-step instructions for how to install it here:

You can download the CJB Cheats Menu here.

More Hairstyles
Another simple, direct mod that does exactly what its name suggests, giving you access to even more hairstyles for your farmer. Unfortunately, this one involves some fiddling around with .ini files to make the actual changes happen in-game but hey, it's a small price to pay for a better hairdo, right?

You can download Pencilstab's More Hairstyles and find instructions on how to install it here.

Your Room (Undertale)
Like Undertale? Like Stardew Valley? Boom, here ya go: Keyten's Your Room, a mod that allows you to decorate your house to look like Toriel's house. You can find Your Room, as well as some other Undertale/Stardew Valley mashup mods here.

Better Pigs And Recolours
Ok, your pigs are cute but maybe you want them not to be pink. Well, modder Zhuria has just the thing for you, letting you change your pigs' skin into various colors and patterns, like a simple red pig or even something fancier, such as a Berkshire pig skin. There's no camo pattern yet though, which seems like a real missed opportunity.

You can download Better Pigs And Recolours and find instructions on how to install it here.

Chocobo Mod
This mod, created by NachoDevs, is for the Final Fantasy fans out there and allows you to replace your handy-dandy horse with FF's signature oversized bird. You can download the mod and find details on how to install it here.

Obon Horse

Of course if you don't like Chocobos, you can always turn your horse into...an eggplant!? Find out how here with Toumato's mod.

Easier Fishing Mod
Oh thank heavens. One of the biggest issues I, and others as well, have with Stardew is its difficult fishing mini-game. Luckily, there's a mod by Steffjes that makes fishing easier for folks who don't care for it. You can download it here.

Gotta Catch 'Em All
Pokedew Valley isn't so much one mod as it is a community effort to reskin all the animals and beasties in Stardew into Pokemon. The community has already succeeded in turning your horse into Ponyta and your cat into Meowth. You can keep tabs on the project here and download pokemon textures as they're released.
