Brutal Honesty – Inside Massive Chalice's Open Development

by Ben Hanson on May 22, 2014 at 09:00 AM

Last year Double Fine launched its second Kickstarter for the tactical strategy game Massive Chalice. The pitch was for a game combining XCOM: Enemy Unknown's gameplay, Game of Thrones bloodline maneuvering, along with permadeath as a key ingredient. It easily met its funding goal. Learning lessons from the backer-exclusive glimpses at game development with Broken Age, project lead Brad Muir (Psychonauts, Iron Brigade) and his team have opened up to anyone interested and have been livestreaming on a regular basis to show off the game's progress. We visited Muir at Double Fine recently and spoke with him about the reasons behind the transparency.

Watch the video below to learn more about Double Fine's bold development strategy and Muir's thoughts on the insincere state of behind-the-scenes videos in the gaming industry today.
