Brutal Honesty – Inside Massive Chalice's Open Development

Last year Double Fine launched its second Kickstarter for the tactical strategy game Massive Chalice. The pitch was for a game combining XCOM: Enemy Unknown's gameplay, Game of Thrones bloodline maneuvering, along with permadeath as a key ingredient. It easily met its funding goal. Learning lessons from the backer-exclusive glimpses at game development with Broken Age, project lead Brad Muir (Psychonauts, Iron Brigade) and his team have opened up to anyone interested and have been livestreaming on a regular basis to show off the game's progress. We visited Muir at Double Fine recently and spoke with him about the reasons behind the transparency.
