This Week In Mobile - Twitch Gameplay, Dungeons, And Botched Surgery

by Isaac Federspiel on Mar 14, 2014 at 12:05 PM

This week has dungeon crawling, twitch gameplay, and shooter games that might have slipped your notice. We also have a couple of old favorites that have recently come to new mobile platforms involving surgery and multiples of three.

Wave Wave
Developer: Tom Janson
Platform: iOS
Price: $2.99

Wave Wave is clearly inspired by Super Hexagon. The goal is to stay alive by tapping the screen to zigzag through deadly triangles that kill you on contact. Accompanying the fast-paced action is a catchy soundtrack. There’s a level mode, an endless mode, and a head-to-head versus mode that splits the screen in half. If you’re the type to chase the top of a leaderboard, challenge your friends, or if you really enjoyed Super Hexagon – Wave Wave is probably for you.

Devious Dungeon
Developer: Ravenous Games
Platform: iOS
Price: $0.99

Devious Dungeon is a medieval action-platformer with a similar aesthetic as Rogue Legacy. While this isn’t a roguelike, it does switch up the level design in dungeons each time you enter them. There are also different weapons, gear, and loot that you can grab along the way, as well as an upgrade system as you level up. Devious Dungeons is a bit basic compared to similar games, but it’s a fun way to kill time on the go.

Surgeon Simulator
Developer: Bossa Studios
Platform: iPad
Price: $5.99

Yes, the surgical sensation has finally come to the app store. The classic heart and kidney transplants are included, as are two new surgeries: teeth transplant and eyes transplant; yes, it’s as horrifying as you’re imagining it to be. Bossa Studios has, of course, hidden its little secrets throughout the game as well.

Glorkian Warriors: Trials of Glork
Developer: Pixeljam
Platform: iOS
Price: $2.99

Glorkian Warriors: Trials of Glork looks like a fun cross between Galaga and Space Invaders. Its cartoony visuals and humor make it a great game for the younger crowd, but its gameplay is fun enough for older gamers to appreciate it as well.

Threes
Developer: Sirvo
Platform: Android and iOS
Price: $1.99

We covered Threes in a previous This Week in Mobile when it came out on iOS, but we thought we’d refresh your memory now that the Android version released. Threes is an addictive puzzle game that has you pairing together multiples of three, or a two and one to make three, to run the score up. It’s a lot less educational than it sounds, we promise.
