Diddy Kong Confirmed For Super Smash Bros. Return

Today marks the release of Donkey Kong Country Tropical Freeze, and Super Smash Bros. director Masahiro Sakurai is celebrating with a new character reveal. The smaller member of the Donkey Kong duo is making his return when Super Smash Bros. arrives for Wii U and 3DS this year.

Diddy Kong is one of the smaller members of the Smash Bros. roster, but can take to the air with his rocket barrels. He also has peanut popguns and banana peels that can hit foes from a distance while keeping them from getting too close.

Super Smash Bros. for Wii U and 3DS are on track for a 2014 release. For more, check out the recent reveals of the Mother Brain assist trophyLucarioZelda, the Skull KidMarthSonic, a redesigned Ray Gun, the 3DS Mii Plaza, and a male Wii Fit trainer.

  • I was never a fan of him, but I suppose it can't hurt to have a more robust roster.
  • Yay! I've always liked Diddy. His eyes look really comical though... Not saying it's a bad thing. Reminds me of how King Dedede looks in this game.

  • Small typo Mike, you need to remove keep in the sentence after your mention of rocket barrels.
  • He's gotta cartwheel...right?

  • Good addition, but still not as exciting as Little Mac.

  • Ugh, I thought he was the most annoying character to fight against.

  • Bring on the tail whipping!

  • I can't wait to beat him up as Peach and Mega Man :)
  • This is turning out to be a great rooster for this game. I just wish they would bring back mewtwo.

  • "What a shocking announcement!" - No one

  • Good to see him returning, he was one of my best.

...Ok, that's all the celebrating I feel this announcement requires.

  • Finally Nintendo, you are getting me hyped. Cant wait to play Smash Brothers.

  • It's always nice to have a character to have another character to beat up on.
  • Awesome! I love Diddy Kong so I'm pretty excited about this!

  • I might be excited for this game. But sometimes, I can't help but point out that this looks like a copycat of Brawl. They should change this to Smash Bros. Universe (For the Wii U. While the handheld version will be Super Smash Bros. 3D).
  • Yay! Another character we could have been without.... -.-

  • Of all of the characters that they have added, the only one I have a problem with is Toon Link. I thought Sakurai said he was not including "clones" in the game, and I know the moveset between Link and Toon Link are slightly different, but they are still not large enough to warant a need for him.
  • This is my hidden character. The one that I am secretly really good with, so this works out well for me.

  • His textures look kind of odd to me.

Other than that, loved him in Brawl and will have fun with him in Smash 4.

  • Back to the monkey-business!
